POTLUCK
PARTY & REIKI TREATMENT DAYS
Namaste
Friends,
I am back from Poland a six week holiday where I spent most
of my time at my parents home – nourishing my Inner ChildJ
It was really wonderful to be back with them, going for
walks, hiking, visiting friends, reading and sometimes simply
doing nothing. I did some traveling in Poland, however,
not much as my purpose of this visit was to spend time with
my family, which was a very blessed time.
Now that I am back in Redmond with dear partner of mine,
Allan, and my soul nourished, I feel very excited about
seeing my friends once again in Long Beach. I will be staying
in Long Beach at my dear friend, Angela’s place for about
10 days and would love to see you all. I will be there from
November 11th – till November 21st so please let me know
what is the best time to see you (except the Trainings Days).
Please Everyone – Join us for

SENDING
THE LIGHT TO ALL WE CARE FOR
I frequently get emails from those who have lost loved
ones including people who have witnessed the last days/months
of a family member or a dear friend. The following is dedicated
to those who remain and those who have gone on before us.
The following are few quotes from Elizabeth Kubler-Ross,
the author and lecturer of many books on death and dying.
Her writings have done much to help others through the actual
dying process as well as comforting those that remain. Elizabeth
passed away on August 25, 2004.
‘It's only when we truly know and understand that we have
a limited time on earth - and that we have no way of knowing
when our time is up, we will then begin to live each day
to the fullest, as if it was the only one we had.’
‘You will not grow if you sit in a beautiful flower garden,
but you will grow if you are sick, if you are in pain, if
you experience losses, and if you do not put your head in
the sand, but take the pain as a gift to you with a very,
very specific purpose.’
‘How do the geese know when to fly to the sun? Who tells
them the seasons? How do we, humans, know when it is time
to move on? As with the migrant birds, so surely with us,
there is a voice within, if only we would listen to it,
that tells us so certainly when to go forth into the unknown.’
‘People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and
shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in,
their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from
within.’
‘We need to teach the next generation of children from day
one that they are responsible for their lives. Mankind's
greatest gift, also its greatest curse, is that we have
free choice. We can make our choices built from love or
from fear.’
‘Learn to get in touch with the silence within yourself
and know that everything in this life has a purpose.’
‘There is no need to go to India or anywhere else to find
peace. You will find that deep place of silence right in
your room, your garden or even your bathtub.’

BRINGING
REIKI INTO THE HOSPITALS by Ula
Most of us who are Reiki Practitioners share one very
similar desire, to bring that love and healing Reiki energy
to others. Many of us have the desire to bring that compassionate
touch to places which so far didn’t put that much emphasis
on the wholeness of patients. And while other healing arts
like western medicine, focuses primarily on the body or
mind, Reiki is focused on treating people as a whole human
being, both the body, mind and spirit equally. Patients
also are demanding that they be treated as a whole person.
They are asking for being seen for much more than ‘just
a body’. It’s time to bridge western knowledge and ancient
wisdom, western logic and eastern understanding.
This article is about bringing Reiki healing into the hospitals,
Senior Centers, Hospices, Nursing Homes, AIDS and cancer
agencies and other places which you feel will greatly benefit
from having Reiki. First thing which you need to do is to
write a letter introducing yourself and Reiki healing. Before
sending it to a hospital, do some research of where reiki
healing might be needed, whether there are any departments
which are offering already Complementary Care Program or/and
Spiritual Help – if yes, check whether they offer reiki
as well. Also get the name of a person you are going to
send your introductory letter to. It might be helpful. Write
a proposal. Be very specific what you can offer and how
that can benefit the hospital. Keep open mind to find what
will work.

HELPING,
FIXING OR SERVING?
I
would love to share with you all some very interesting view
on differences between helping, fixing and serving people
from ‘Kitchen Table Wisdom’ by Rachel Naomi Remen.
‘Helping, fixing, and serving represent three different
ways of seeing life. When you help, you see life as weak.
When you fix, you see life as broken. When you serve, you
see life as whole. Fixing and helping may be the work of
the ego, and service the work of the soul. Service rests
on the premise that the nature of life is sacred, that life
is a holy mystery which has an unknown purpose. When we
serve, we know that we belong to life and to that purpose.
From the perspective of service, we are all connected: All
suffering is like my suffering and all joy is like my joy.
The impulse to serve emerges naturally and inevitably from
this way of seeing. Service is different from helping. Helping
is not a relationship between equals. A helper may see others
as weaker than they are, needier than they are, and people
often feel this inequality. The danger in helping is that
we may inadvertently take away from people more than we
could ever give them; we may diminish their self-esteem,
their sense of worth, integrity or even wholeness. When
we help, we become aware of our own strength. But when we
serve, we don’t serve with our strength; we serve with ourselves,
and we draw from all of our experiences. Our limitations
serve; our wounds serve; even our darkness can serve. My
pain is the source of my compassion; my wounded ness is
the key to my empathy.
Serving make us aware of our wholeness and its power. The
wholeness is us serves the wholeness in others and the wholeness
in life…Service is a relationship between equals: our service
strengthens us as well as others. Fixing and helping are
draining, and over time we may burn out, but service is
renewing. In helping we might find a sense of satisfaction;
in serving we find a sense of gratitude…..
…Fixing and helping create a distance between people, an
experience of difference. We cannot serve at a distance.
We can only serve that to which we are profoundly connected
that which we are willing to touch. Serving requires us
to know that our humanity is more powerful than our expertise.
In forty-five years of chronic illness I have been helped
by a great number of people, and fixed by a great many others
who did not recognize my wholeness. All that fixing and
helping left me wounded in some important and fundamental
ways. Only service heals. Service is not and experience
of strength or expertise; service is an experience of mystery,
surrender4 and awe. Helpers and fixers feel causal. Servers
may experience from time to time a sense of being used by
larger unknown forces. Those who serve have traded a sense
of mastery for an experience of mystery and in doing so
have transformed their work and their lives into practice.’
